Welcome to Doggie Dates
Pet Therapy
Welcome to Doggie Dates Pet Therapy, closely linked with Doggie Dates. Our initiative thrives on connecting dogs to people, and fostering meaningful relationships. It brings dogs to people when people can't come to the dogs. Pet Therapy is designed to alleviate loneliness, promote mental health, and cultivate a strong sense of community amongst people who love dogs but may not be able to have them in their life.
Our Mission
Our Mission is rooted in inclusivity, mental health promotion, and the encouragement of social interaction among people and their canine friends, one dog at a time. Our Pet Therapy services operate across the Central Coast, offering single visits to a variety of facilities such as schools, hospitals, clubs, workplaces, and retirement homes. Our volunteer team comprises of more than 30 dedicated individuals and their four legged companions. We take 4-6 specially selected dogs per visit. We provide these services free of charge. Our therapy dogs are clean, vaccinated, and friendly, and all handlers are vetted through necessary checks to ensure the safety and enjoyment of all involved.
Impact of Our Visits
Our pet therapy visits have demonstrated profound benefits for all involved. These include enhanced community engagement, improved moods, motor skills, cognitive functions, reduced depression and anxiety levels, and increased energy and conversational opportunities, fostering happiness and joy among participants. Often participants talk about this experience well after the visit has concluded.
Joining Our Cause
Our Pet Therapy volunteers are required to have a Working with Children Check and a Police Check, with minimal costs involved for these verifications. Additionally, a nominal fee covers the uniform necessary for participation. While we have certain expectations regarding volunteer engagement and availability, we ensure training and support to make the experience of being a volunteer impactful.
Volunteer Experience
We value the diverse personalities, preferences, and comfort levels of our dogs, their handlers, and our leaders. Flexibility in participation allows for a tailored approach to the various environments and interactions, ensuring a positive and enjoyable experience for all. Before each visit, our team gathers to prepare, allowing dogs to adjust and enter each session calmly. Leaders play a crucial role in facilitating, supporting, and advocating for our volunteers and their dogs, ensuring a smooth and beneficial visit.
