Our mission is to foster inclusivity, promote mental health and encourage social interaction for people and dogs, one walk at a time.
In 2015, Doggie Dates was established in Campbelltown-Camden, initially sparked by our founder's casual sharing of photographs from dog walks with friends on local community pages. This prompted suggestions from the community to formalise these gatherings into an organised group. Consequently, Doggie Dates officially launched in January 2015 with its inaugural walk in the Camden region, attracting several enthusiastic participants. It swiftly became evident that Doggie Dates was more than just a platform for socialisation; it also emerged as a cherished avenue for human connection, particularly benefiting individuals experiencing anxiety and depression. Through shared walks and conversations, participants cultivated friendships, highlighting a significant correlation between the activity and improved mental health.
Expanding upon our initial success, Doggie Dates extended its reach to the Central Coast in 2018, following our founder's relocation, while maintaining operations in Campbelltown-Camden. Over time, the initiative further grew to include various areas across Sydney and Newcastle. Despite facing challenges such as fluctuating interest levels and the impact of COVID-19, Doggie Dates has continued to flourish.
In 2023, Doggie Dates commenced Pet Therapy on the Central Coast. Since commencement, they have made a difference within many different organisations, and lives. Doggie Dates carries out several visits per month with a team of three to six dogs and their handlers. Pet Therapy has been proven to boost mood, motor skills, cognition, and energy. It also reduces depression and anxiety, and enhances engagement, sparking joy and lasting positive conversations among participants.
In July 2024, Doggie Dates NSW recognised the need to separate the company into two - A dedicated Pet Therapy company (known as Doggie Dates Pet Therapy), and a dedicated Dog Walking company (known as Doggie Dates Collective). Despite operating as separate companies, they are still very closely linked.
Today, Doggie Dates Collective thrives through the dedication of volunteer leaders and managers who oversee the groups and organise walks across various regions. Operating as a not-for-profit, we encounter numerous operational expenses and are continually in search of donations and support, whether financial, in-kind, or through volunteer engagement.
We prioritise the safety and well-being of all participants, requiring that dogs be securely harnessed or leashed—explicitly excluding the use of retractable leashes. Additionally, we uphold the principles outlined in our AAA policy, further details of which are provided in our legal and policy section.
Doggie Dates has evolved remarkably from its basic beginnings to become a transformative community initiative, touching the lives of many and fostering invaluable human and canine connections. We are profoundly grateful for the stories shared with us, illustrating the positive impact Doggie Dates has made.
Welcome to our journey, where every walk is an adventure and an opportunity to connect, share, and grow.
